This 7 element version can be distinguished from the 8 element version by the placement of the IR mark between the numerals 8 and 4. The 7 element Takumars have the infrared focusing mark to the left of the numeral '4' on the DOF scale. All subsequent versions (including K, M, F and FA K-mount versions) have 7 elements.
